The label on this wine is what originally caught my eye. This is a Trader Joes import exclusive, so you’re likely only to be able to find it at your local TJs. In addition, this Garnacha was aged in oak barrels, which is pretty rare in Garnacha at this price. And for the price of $5.99, it’s a great bottle to stock up on!
On the nose, there are notes of blackberry and baking spices with hints of balsamic. On the palate, it starts with blackberry, and a mix of red berries. It has a medium finish that ends dry with notes of exactly when I had on the nose: spices and balsamic with the subtle addition of toffee and chocolate. The internet mentions notes of licorice, but I couldn’t pick that up.
Drink immediately. I found that after a few days in the bottle, the toffee and chocolate notes start to dominate the fruit flavors.
