Meritage is a red blend. A term used to describe Bordeaux-style red and must be made from at least two of the permitted grape varieties with no single variety making up more than 90 percent of the final blend. This Meritage is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (63%), Malbec (21%), Merlot (12%), Petite Verdot (4%).
This is a multilayered wine, probably because it is a blend. I consider this a perfect fireside red that pairs well with any red meat. It is a deep purple color with equal notes of fruit and spices.
On the palate, it is bold and dry with the perfect level of tannins. At first, I get tons of fruit leather, specifically blackberry and then settle into a chocolate covered blueberry. There are also little notes of tobacco at the tail end that helps elevate the long finish.
