Gruner Veltliner is a dry white wine that is most commonly from Austria. While this particular wine is from Hungray, it is pretty typical of a Gruner Veltliner - dry, acidic and balanced. I like Gruner Veltliner wine because I find affordable GV's are more consistently drinkable than an affordable sauvignon blanc. However, they are a bit more rare, so finding this at TJ's, I had to try it.
This wine is well balanced and not overly aromatic or flavorful that sometimes plagues cheap white wines. It is dry and acidic but you can clearly taste the notes of lime, pineapple, and green apple. It ends with delightful hints of green peppers and freshly mowed grass.
I would bring this as white wine to a daytime bbq/picnic and served with salads and light chicken or seafood dishes. Serve chilled.
